Graduate Application Deadlines:

Graduate applicants should refer to their prospective department’s website to determine application deadlines and admission terms. Visit http://oregonstate.edu/admissions/international/graduate.php and select your major.  Please note: Many graduate departments have a Jan. 15 deadline for a fall term start date.  

General Information:

All application materials can be submitted in one packet to the Graduate School.

Materials may be submitted to the Graduate School at a later date, if needed, for the following:

  • Official Transcripts
  • Official TOEFL scores
  • Official GRE/ GMAT scores
  • Letters of Reference
  • Certification of Finances Form and Evidence of Funding

Undergraduate Application Instructions:

Application Form: One electronic submission of the online application, or one original paper application (downloadable).

Application Fee: A $50 check or money order in U.S. dollars payable to Oregon State University. Applicants applying electronically must pay by Visa/MasterCard/Discover Card. If no credit card is available, please use the paper application.

Academic Transcripts: One original or photocopy* of all transcripts of previous academic work, including secondary schools, middle schools, universities and professional schools. Results of comprehensive examinations are required in the original language and on the official form of the institution, government, or other examining or certifying agency. For documents in languages other than English, please provide a certified translation. Note: Grade slips/reports, computer print-outs, internal transcripts are not acceptable. *

If admitted , an official transcript from the above institutions must be received by the Office of Admissions prior to the student’s second term of registration.

TOEFL Score: One photocopy of the applicant’s TOEFL score. If admitted, the official TOEFL score must be received by the Office of Admissions prior to registering for the second term.

Certification of Finances Form and Evidence of Funding: A completed and signed Certification of Finances Form along with supporting documentation, demonstrating sufficient financial resources for the desired academic program.

Please note: As an undergraduate international applicant, you are not required to submit an Insight Resume nor an SAT score.

Graduate Application Instructions:

In addition to the instructions listed below, graduate applicants are strongly encouraged to contact their academic program(s) of interest to determine whether additional admission materials are required.

Application Form: One electronic submission of the online application or, one original and two (2) copies of the paper application (downloadable) . Applicants applying only to a graduate certificate program must submit the paper application and may not apply online.

Application Fee: A $55 check or money order in U.S. dollars payable to Oregon State University. Applicants applying electronically must pay by Visa/MasterCard/Discover Card. If no credit card is available, please use the paper application.

Academic Transcripts: Three (3) photocopies of all transcripts of previous academic work, undergraduate and graduate. All photocopies submitted must be made from official documents. For documents in languages other than English, please provide a certified translation. Transcripts must show the last 90 quarter credits (60 semester credits), of graded course work in the first baccalaureate degree; and all course work completed after the first baccalaureate degree. If admitted, two (2) official transcripts from the above institutions must be received by the Graduate School prior to the student’s second term of registration for a graduate degree program and prior to the first term of registration for a graduate certificate program. Note: Grade slips/reports, computer printouts, internal transcripts are not acceptable.

Statement of Objectives: If applying electronically, the statement will be automatically forwarded to the department. If applying with the paper application, applicants must include two (2) copies of the their statement of objectives and particular field of interest. Applicants applying only to graduate certificate programs do not need to meet this institutional requirement, but are encouraged to consult with their departments to determine whether this item or other departmental materials are required.

Letters of Reference: Three (3) letters of professional reference, on official letter head, in sealed envelopes and addressed to the proposed major department are required of all applicants applying for admission to a graduate degree program. If you have a master’s degree, you should include a letter from your major professor. Applicants applying only to graduate certificate programs do not need to meet this institutional requirement, but are encouraged to consult with their departments to determine whether these items or other departmental materials are required.

GRE/ GMAT Scores: Certain departments/programs require the GRE of all applicants. Review your proposed department’s test score requirements by visiting Graduate Programs. The GMAT is required for all College of Business MBA applicants.

TOEFL Score: Two (2) photocopies of the applicant’s TOEFL score. If admitted, the official TOEFL score must be received by the Graduate School before being allowed to register for the second term.

Certification of Finances Form and Evidence of Funding: A completed and signed Certification of Finances Form along with supporting documentation, demonstrating sufficient financial resources for the desired academic program.

Special instructions for MAIS (Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies) Applicants :

Due to the nature of the MAIS program which involves three departments, applicants are asked to submit additional copies of the following:

    • Six (6) copies of all transcripts
    • Six (6) copies of the statement of objectives
    • Six (6) copies of TOEFL scores

What to Expect after you submit your application to OSU:

Online Applications

  • After 2-3 days, you may return to the InfOSU page and re-enter your login and password that you used when submitting the application.
  • Click on “Check Your Status” and review which documents have been received and entered into the system.
  • Because your supporting materials will likely arrive by postal service, it is best to wait 3-4 weeks before checking to see whether your documents have been received. Please note that during certain times of the year, the high volume of mail often requires extra time to process.

Print Applications

  • After 3-4 weeks, you should expect to receive a login name and password by email that will allow you to check your application status via the internet.

Undergraduate Applications:

  • Within 4-6 weeks, we will send you a letter via international postal service confirming which application materials have been received and which materials may still be missing.
  • If all required materials are received, it generally takes 2-4 weeks before an admissions decision is made.

Graduate Applications

  • Processing time for graduate applications varies greatly as each department has their own timeline for reviewing applications. Contact your Department directly for more information.
  • Depending on the department, you should receive confirmation (via email or post) of the receipt of your application and whether any items may still be missing.
  • For questions about graduate assistantships, contact your department directly.

Submitting Additional Documents

Unless instructed otherwise, please submit all undergraduate application materials to the Office of Admissions, and all graduate application materials to the Graduate School.

Transcripts

  • A certified, unofficial transcript is acceptable for review of the application
  • An admissions decision can be made with the unofficial transcripts
  • Official transcript must be submitted to the Office of Admissions prior to the student’s second term of registration.

Certification of Finances AND Evidence of Funding (2 items)

  • The Certification of Finances form must be downloaded and printed (including if you submitted your application online)
  • Certification of Finances must be completed and signed and submitted along with sufficient evidence of funding before the I-20 can be issued.
  • Bank statements should be no more than nine months old before the term of enrollment at the university. All documents must bear an original signature and seal.

Financial Documentation

  • Preferably submitted at the same time as the Certification of Finances Form
  • Faxes are acceptable temporarily, however an original is required prior to enrollment
  • Certified copies and originals are preferred
  • Documents must be less than 9 months old at the time one begins his or her studies at OSU.

TOEFL scores

  • Unofficial TOEFL scores are acceptable for review of application
  • An Official score must be received prior to the student’s second term of registration
  • TOEFL scores must be less than two year old
  • Alternative test scores must be submitted directly by testing agency.

 GRE/ GMAT scores (graduate applicants)

  • Required by some departments (check with department for more information)
  • Unofficial scores are acceptable for review of application
  • ETS institution code for OSU 4586

Letters of Recommendation (graduate applicants)

  • Three (3) letters of professional reference, addressed to the proposed major department or program (may be mailed directly to the Department)
  • Reference letters must be written on official letterhead and sealed in an envelope with the referees signature across the sealed flap.
  • Students with master's degrees should include a letter of reference from their former major professor.

Statement of Objectives (graduate applicants and post-baccalaureate applicants)

  • Two (2) copies of your Statement of Objectives and particular fields of interest.
  • MAIS (Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies) applicants must submit six (6) copies if submitting the paper application and none if applying online (the electronic version will be distributed).
